Scout Sleepover-Boy Scouts-Astronomy I
Earn the Astronomy Merit Badge in this two part workshop/sleepover.  This requires some “homework”.  We will be using the museum’s telescope and the “Sky Globe” computer program to unlock the mysteries of the sky.  Dress to be outside for part of the time. (Must complete both sessions- the second session is Saturday, February 21st from 10:30 am -2:00 pm.  You will need a sack lunch for the second session.)

Burpee's permanent collection is home to many African animal mounts. Discover the special adaptations of these animals. Meet them up close. Explore the habitats of Africa. Make a mask of one of the African animals you meet.

Rocks really do rock at Burpee Museum!  Handle minerals and fossils from our collection and learn the stories they tell.  Perform some simple identification tests and start your own collection as you earn your badge.

Burpee Explorers - Hearts 1-2-3-4                                                                                                                       How are animal hearts the same as each other and how are they different? Compare the number of chambers which diffrent groups of animals' hearts have. Get hands on as you dissect a heart. FOr ages 6-12, must be accompanied by an adult to assist with dissection. Bring your sleeping bag and favorite stuffed animal to the Museum and earn the Space Explorer try-it in.  Explore the skies using the museum telescope, learn about the phases of the moon, and create your own star maker.  We will be outside for short periods, so DRESS FOR THE WEATHER.

Burpee Explorers: Jurassic Park
Burpee Museum has uncovered a treasure trove of bones in the Morrison Formation in Utah.                                            These bones (over 200 of them so far) are from the Jurassic period. Learn the story they tell of that time period. Participate in a simulated dig and take home your dinosaur treasure. Pre-registration and payment is required

Night Sounds & Spooky Science
Follow the clues from spooky station to station as you explore the darkened Museum listening to "Night Sounds" and meeting all sorts of critter and creatures along the way. After you have explored every dark nook and cranny, head over to the Discovery Center for som "Spooky Science." Rockford Dance Company and Rockford Art Museum are joining in the fun too. Parking at Riverfront Museum Park, then walk through the tunnel to Burpee.
